Videogame Research - Summer Task.

The videogame I have chosen to research and focus on was Candy Crush.
The motive of the game is to reach different tasks within a limit of moves allowed. For Example:

In this level you have to break all the ice within 50 moves. A few have already been broken with 31 moves remaining. You also have to reach the points target, or go ubove it, or you dont go through to the next round.
Some Ice cubes are doubled (The darker ones), whereas some are single (Lighter, more faint ones).

GENRE: The genre of this game is a puzzle. Its a game where you have to figure out how to break things, move them etc. Therefore it is a puzzle.
PLATFORM: The platforms used for this game is more of the tablet/phone side of the media world. This game could be played on the following: iPhone, iPod(Touch), Samsung, Tablets (Playbook, iPad etc.) Also, it could be played on the Social Networking Site: Facebook.
PRICE: Candycrush is free on all tablets, androids, iphones etc. There is no play/app store where it costs. Which means, it gets ALOT of users.
RELEASE: The game was released at different times depending on what it was installed on.
Facebook: April 12, 2012
Apple App Store: November 14, 2012
Android/Play Store: December 14, 2012
REVIEWS: Candy Crush has gotten phenomenal reviews. The average rating of the game is 4.4/5. Which is an amazing review average.
PURCHASES/USERS: There is 45.6 million average monthly users that play Candy Crush.

The main company that developed, and the only developer of Candy Crush was "King". There is the website which is: King.com. King is the largest game developer on Facebook, where they produce video games, casual games, online games, etc. King has 400 employees.

Candy Crush was promoted through various places. From computer/internet to TV.
It was advertised on facebook, youtube, google, and it even had its own commercial.
The facebook and twitter page tells you whats new on the game, whats
been updated, what challenges they are, clues to give etc.
twitter.
facebook.

Candy crush didnt do alot of advertising. On itunes (app store) they occasionally had an advertisement before the game came out on itunes. However ,because the game first came out on facebook, there was alot of facebook advertising, on the facebook page ubove.

I dont think Candy Crush has a particular target audience, as it could be for anyone. But an estimated audience, based on my research, I would say it is aimed to male and female ages 10-60. This is because anyone loves a good puzzle. When your bored or are waiting for a time pass you can just play candy crush and go through all the challenges and keep on trying.

Overall, Candy Crush Saga was very successful. There was a big trend going on for a few months for it, and the company has had full attention, and made a HUGE profit. All the hard work and advertising was worth it. However, I dont think that they will be a Candy Crush Saga 2, I think they will keep increasing levels, and challenges to make it better. Hopefully, there will be a sequel.

HSBC - advert.

In today's lesson we had to come up with a way of advertising HSBC using photoshop. We had to do this with either 3 different picutures with 1 word, or 1 picture with 3 different words. I did 3 different pictures with 1 word:

I decided to use the word "inspiration". I chose those three pictures to match the word because they are all types of ways to be inspired, or types of inspirations.
Malcom X - he inspired many people to do what they believed in. He was a massive inspiration. I chose him because many young and elder people think of him as an inspiration or role model.
Family/Parents - Your parents could be your inspiration, the way they bring you up/ raise you. Also, just a figure to look up to.
Words/Quotations - Words can motivate you, and can inspire you alot. They can be words from anyone, but they can push/encourage you to do anything you want to.
With the addition of HSBC, to showed the main advertisement.

These three pictures all mean the same thing, no matter what or who your inspiration is, you can still be inspired.

"Hunger Games: Training" Game task.

In the lesson, we had to promote our new game, which was about the hunger games, the movie, training to be in the games.

My group had made a powerpoint presentation to present to the class which included:
- how we're going to promote (celebrities, internet etc.)
- when its launching (november 3rd)
- how we would get free publicity (the second movie will be out in november)
- our budgets and how much we used (£1mil budget, £555,000 used)
- what the game would look like (colours, logo, etc.)
- what console the game would be made for (play station move, xbox kinect, wii)
- how much the game was (£40)

We had succeeded with the task, and tried to cover all topics, and hopefully the presentation was presented well.
