(trailer)
The trailer is a very different trailer to other ones. This is because there are very small clips and they are continuously jump cuts of different scenes. The movie doesn’t have disequilibrium or a new equilibrium. However, you can figure out what the disequilibrium is. While watching the trailer you only notice 1 or 2 of the characters and their roles: Leonardo DiCaprio and Jonah Hill as the main characters, and a few of the police. At the beginning of the trailer it tells us the distributors and the producers UPI and RGP along with the release date. Also, the director is named, the two main characters. There is a voice over, and music as well as text on screen. This is different because that normally doesn’t happen. . There are quite a few enigma and action codes. Such as do the police find him? What is his work that is illegal? There’s also a clip where a man is hanging from a building, what happens? Does he fall? The clip from 01:33 to 01:45 seconds in the trailer, DiCaprio’s is telling us about his work and says it’s illegal. This could lead to many Enigma codes such as why is he doing this work? How did it get so big? What is the job he’s doing? The trailer is effective because it doesn’t show you a lot of the disequilibrium which leaves the audience wanting to know what happens and will go watch the movie. The trailer makes an impact because it’s very intense and there’s a lot going on. Some people may not understand what the whole movie is about from watching the trailer, and some may think that there’s too much going on such as: Partying, girls, money etc. The poster compared to the trailer aren’t that different because in the Poster you see the office, money, girls, partying and the main character, which is the same as the trailer. But in the trailer you get to know the story line slightly more and get introduced to different people/things.

(Poster)
The title has stood out the most as the pop of orange grabs your attention. The use of Sans serif font for the title suggests that the film isn’t serious or formal at all, and in a documentary they would normally use a serif font. The central image depicts that the main character (Leonardo DiCaprio) is some sort of boss and also tells us the movie is based on him or his life and tells us his status in the film. The image is placed in the visual centre so that the audience knows and recognises the main character. The colour scheme is obviously orange and black as the main character is in those colours, and the writing is black and orange, also, no one is the background is wearing those colours so they won’t stand out. Surprisingly, there isn’t a production blurb as there normally would be on a film poster. There are just a few credits at the bottom, director and main character at the top, then a release date at the bottom. The film poster tells the audience a bit of what the movie will include with parties and craziness which means it would be a comedy, therefore people would want to go watch it.

Representations
The representations of the women are just like they’re items. I think this because in the trailer the women are just there for the men’s company and are just being used. This is a bad representation because it makes people think all women are cheap and vulnerable. The representations of women are shown similarly in the poster and trailer. Whereas the representation for men shows that they’re very powerful, and have power of women and can do what they want. This isn’t equal. But because this is based in the 1990s it seems fine as men had dominance over women. This movie has the stereotype of all men by being obsessed with sex, money and violence. Surprisingly, there aren’t any black people in the movie considering what year it was.

Overall effectiveness
Overall, the film poster and trailer have made an impact on the movie as it shows you what type of movie it is, what it’s about, etc. The wolf of wall street was predicted a REALLY good movie also, so this led to many people going to watch it, pre-book tickets, going to the premiere etc. The budget of the movie was $100,000,000 and they made $119,842,323, which shows how much of an impact the poster and trailer were for them to make that much money and the rest of the film promotion. However, they still have more money to come as it hasn’t been released in Some of Asia, some of Europe and more.

My trailer and poster
My film poster and trailer arent as similar because my poster just has the main character by himself with no one around him. Which relates to the movie more than the trailer, because the poster is the disequilibrium which isnt shown in the trailer. I think most of the disequilibrium is shown in the poster as the tagline shows something bad happens, also the main character is alone instead of with a load of people. Also, the trailer shows more of what his lifestyle is like and the poster leaves you questioning about what his lifestyle is like. Overall, I think my poster and trailer act as a whole as they are opposite but together you can tell the equilibrum and the disequilibrium.
